Internet Content Filtering
Internet filters allows schools, libraries, companies and personal computer users to
manage the information that end users can access. Filters may be needed
for legal, ethical or productivity reasons.
Schools need to limit access to the web sites so children won't be exposed to objectionable
or inappropriate material. Laws require schools and libraries to enforce a policy of Internet safety
that protects against access by adults and minors to visual depictions that are obscene, child pornography,
or harmful to minors.
Internet surfing can cut into a companies productivity and place a strain on
network services. A company may want to filter access to sites that employees
might visit during working hours like Ebay, Amazon, Disney and certain magazine publisher
sites.
Parents want to limit access their children have to certain materials on the
web. They can choose from a number of free filtering programs to help them
manage which web sites can be accessed by their children.
