SCORM - Sharable Content Object Reference Model
The Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative was launched by the Department of Defense and the Office of Science and Technology Policy in November of 1997. The need was to make it easier to share "learning objects" (video and audio clips, graphic, text and other files) between Learning Management Systems. The ADL initiative focused on military training and a way to provide instruction and decision support that could be tailored to individual needs and delivered anytime, anywhere. The main goal being to develop a way of creating learning objects that would be reusable and interoperable with any LMS system. The result was SCORM™. SCORM™ is a set of specifications for developing, packaging and delivering e-learning training materials. SCORM- compliant content can be merged with other compliant packages to produce a repository of training materials that can be shared across Learning Management Systems. SCORM™ General News
